A Partnership with the Caregiver
Caregivers have a lot on their plates: assisting with personal care, doctor’s appointments, food preparation, medication management…the list is long. While it can be difficult to find the time for self-care, it’s important to remember that your own wellness is still a priority.
At Missoula Aging Services, Family Caregiver Support specialists will work with you to navigate the responsibilities of caregiving and treat you with respect and compassion.
What is Family Caregiver Support?
The Family Caregiver Support Program assists family caregivers to manage their caregiving duties while also taking time to care for themselves.
Family Caregiver Support Specialists can help with:
- Stress
- Depression
- Caregiving Responsibilities
The Family Caregiver Support Program encourages self-care because it is frequently neglected while family caregivers attend to their loved one’s needs.
Family caregivers come in many sizes and shapes, and their backgrounds can shape the caregiving experience. Services most likely to reduce stress and promote self-care are matched with each care partner, based on individual needs and preferences.
What services are provided?
- Assessment of the caregiver's needs, challenges, and goals will help shape a personalized care plan.
- Information and local resources: Respite care, counseling, support groups, and training on health, nutrition, and other issues related to caregiving are all available.
- Follow-up consultations, including adjustments to the plan as needed over time. Family caregivers become partners in developing a plan for supported caregiving.
Who is eligible?
Caregivers of any age who are caring for a family member due to any chronic illness, disease or memory loss. Support is available for family caregivers located in both Missoula and Ravalli Counties.
People do not have to be direct caregivers to receive support from this program if they manage care for a family member who lives in another area.
How much does it cost?
Family Caregiver Support is provided at no cost.
