Respite Program

What is the Respite Program?

Take time for yourself to better care for someone else

Missoula Aging Services’ Respite Program works one-on-one with primary caregivers and their families to create a holistic program that provides support, advocacy, education and resources.

The Respite Program offers assistance to help identify formal and informal support systems, in order to provide a temporary period of rest or relief (respite) to the primary caregiver. Missoula Aging Services’ recognizes the need for financial assistance in hiring an alternative caregiver; funding for respite services may be available from Missoula Aging Services on a sliding fee scale based on income for low to moderate-income individuals living in Missoula County.

Respite services help to reduce stress and improve the health and overall well-being of the primary caregiver, while also enhancing the care recipient’s quality of life. Research shows that respite is most effective when combined with education and supportive services to provide a complete circle of support. Our Respite Program also provides information and assistance, which helps the caregiver and care recipient understand resources available to them in the community.
