Compare Plans in an Open Enrollment Consultation

By Kate Cotnoir

As the Resource Program Manager, my thoughts turn to Medicare Open Enrollment every fall, which happens from October 15 - December 7 each year.

This is the time when Medicare beneficiaries can check their Medicare Part D or Advantage plan and be sure that it is the best choice for them for the coming year, or they may shop for a new plan. Open Enrollment consultations help you compare plans and save money on prescriptions.

During this time in the Resource Center, we are busy taking appointments to help people check their plans. These plans change from year to year, and checking your plan is the only way to be sure you have the plan that covers the medications and providers you need for the coming year. We may be able to save you money by finding the least expensive plan to fit your needs.

At Missoula Aging Services, it’s just one of the ways we fulfill our mission of promoting the independence, dignity, and health of older adults and those who care for them.

Year-round, the Resource Center also offers Benefits and Programs Screening appointments, where we discuss income, resources, expenses and eligibility for benefits and programs. It is an opportunity for us to get to know our clients and to provide education about the programs and services they may qualify for. It’s a great way to begin the process of planning for retirement.

Caregiver Consultation are another type of appointment offered all year. This is another way that we fulfill our mission, and it is our pleasure to provide support and a listening ear to the caregivers in our community who are doing such critically important and challenging work. We can provide education about long-term care options and refer to various services and supports available to caregivers. We provide referrals for assistance with preparing legal documents in support of long-term care planning.

It is always helpful to have a plan. We love to share our knowledge of the many wonderful resources available in our community that support older adults in planning for their future, any time of year!
