At the start of each new year, many resolve to do better for their health and wellness, look for fresh ways to find happiness, and seek new opportunities to give back to their communities. As people evaluate new beginnings in Missoula County, the Volunteer Services team at Missoula Aging Services (MAS) would like to invite community members to include volunteering in their New Year’s resolutions.
Many programs and services provided by MAS are possible thanks to wonderful volunteers dedicated to giving back to older adults in Missoula County. With opportunities available for adults of all ages, the Volunteer Services team at MAS is prepared to match people with the volunteer option that fits their interests, availability, and skills.
Ria Overholt, MAS Volunteer Services Program Manager, shared, “We have experienced a steady increase in the need for services for older adults in our community. Volunteers are the lifeline to help deliver many of these services. The Agency’s Volunteer Services team interviews each prospective volunteer about their experiences and skills to help find the volunteer opportunity best suited to the individual. Taking the time to carefully match each volunteer ensures a rewarding experience for both the volunteers and our clients.”
The Agency has a wide range of volunteer opportunities available. Some programs seeking volunteers include Meals on Wheels, Volunteer Companions who provide companionship to older adults and respite for caregivers, and Volunteer Grandparents who serve in local classrooms. The Volunteer Services team is also able to connect volunteers with service opportunities at organizations across the County, such as the Missoula Food Bank or the Missoula Police Department.
